Bangkok Heat Gets Intense.
This week we saw a brilliant start to a major event being kicked off that we have never had before in the international Asia expats Pool Challenge (APC) history. The Bangkok Heat Committee for the APC and other International Pool Series this year changed the qualifying process. The aim was making the selection for the APC Bangkok Heat team, more open and inclusive to get the best talent possible. From all accounts, the great enthusiasm in the qualify matches means it is already a huge success.
Pool in Thailand is now a major export that The Bangkok Pool Sponsoring body wants to exploit for all its worth to make Bangkok and Thailand the undisputed capital of the sport in Asia and beyond.
This first round 1 saw unpredicted support and huge energy for an amazing metamorphosis that is making local and international pool much more connected and socially richer. On Monday and Wednesday at Sportsman and Hustlers after a nearly 2 months registering process to get the best of the best into the mix we saw new and veteran players begin their gruelling 27 qualifying rounds to make the cut. With some early upsets already exciting as others joined to support them all.
In a straight out game count make the cut 14 of the 27 pre-qualified players will form a team to challenge the best of the best of 8 other countries at the Asia Pool Challenge in Jakarta this year in August.
This qualifying series will run over the next few months to create a well-honed machine to bring home the coveted APC Trophy. That has represented being at the top of the Asia Expat Pool communities over the last nine years.
The Chairman of the Bangkok Heat Committee Bob Randle said that the changes are important now not only for the health of the sport but to also ensure the business local players are proud to be involved. too He added that this year will be a test to see how well we can improve in readiness for the event next year which will be in Bangkok be for its 10th anniversary. That will hopefully be the best ever as an even bigger hosting event with many more coming to enjoy.
At the sharp end Ronnie Jakobsen and Stuart Pettman, on the Bangkok HEAT team selection committee added, " it already looks like it will be tough to pick who will get to wear the Bangkok Heat jackets this year." Everyone is approaching this with personal peak readiness so imagine how much more that can lift as we get through the qualifying stage!
Chairman, Bob added. “Watch this space, you ain't seen nothin' yet. This is the best thing we could have ever done, we might have to lock the doors to spectators to avoid a crush."
